A school in Great Yarmouth has managed to coin a brand new hairstyle this week as they banned the ‘Meet me at McDonald’s’ cut.
Headmaster Barry Smith sent a letter to parents of the 1,000 pupils at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy banning a number of styles, including the memorable ‘Meet me at McDonald’s’.
Despite the haircut apparently being so rife in the school that it needed banning, it has caused some confusion among the wider population.
What exactly does ‘Meet me at McDonald’s’ mean when it comes to hair and why has it been dubbed that?
What did the school say of the haircut?
These were the haircuts that Smith said were banned at the Great Yarmouth institution:
- Noticeably longer tops that are not layered in and combined with sharply contrasting sides and back
- Variations of the style often known as ‘Meet me at McDonald’s
- Overgrown, heavy fringes brushed forward onto the face
- High top styles of excessive height
- Shaven parting lines
- Hair that is teased to give excessive height
- Any type of Mohican hairstyle
The ‘Meet me at McDonald’s’ stands out as it featuresshaved sides and a long tousled top with a floppy fringe.
Norwich barber Elliot Branford said: ‘It’s a grade zero or a one on the sides, then disconnected with a perm or curly on the top and you have it sitting forwards.’
Why is it called the ‘Meet me at McDonald’s’?
In short, it is not clear why it is called this.
It can only be assumed that the people who sport the haircut are likely to say, ‘meet me at McDonald’s’ – but this could be a very unfair generalisation.
A hairdresser at Ginger’s Hair Studio – located a short distance from the school in Great Yarmouth – told us they had ‘no idea’ where the name came from.
‘I did have a young lad in here last week who said they weren’t allowed to have it too short at the sides and too long on top,’ the hairdresser added.
