What is the meaning behind the Red Nail Theory? 5 Reasons Why You Should Try It THIS HOLIDAY SEASON — ASHLINA KAPOSTA (2024)

Girlfriend, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. . .

This holiday, you should try elevating your nail game and get yourself a red manicure. Why? Because last week, I felt like I wanted a change from my standard Fall manicure so I went with a red polish for my manicure and wow… the red nail theory effect is a real thing.

One thing I noticed was that ever since I got my red manicure, I swear I have been TWICE as productive at work. I’ve created more content this week than ever and it’s only the middle of the week.

The idea behind the ‘red nail theory’ is that if you wear red nail polish you will get more attention from everyone you meet, especially men. I happened to get so many compliments on my nails, even from children.

The science behind it is that the color red triggers a reaction in the male brain that is similar to the adrenaline rush of cocaine.

“In fact, research shows that men unconsciously find women more attractive when they wear red. Just as men are drawn to the beauty of a shiny red sports car, they seem to have an affinity for women who wear shades of red nail polish.” - psychologist Carla Marie Manly, PhD.

It has also been said that men who grew up in the 90’s had mothers that wore red nail polish and consider it a familiar, comforting feeling.
