The trend forecasters are calling it: Future Dusk, a deep blue-violet shade also known as 129-35-18, is going to be the it color of 2025.
By now we know that color of the year declarations are an indication of much more than just the hue that will inspire the design world annually. Each choice is studied, based on research and precedents that range from current events to interior trends to standards of beauty. In a nutshell, a color of the year prediction reflects a vision of contemporary society and its visual values.
WGSN has made a business out of its industry forecasts, pushing the range of its educated prognostications out years further than its peers. Today, its sister brand Coloro announced that it foresees the surreal hue of Future Dusk as the color that will reflect the world’s coming interplay between physical, virtual, and fantasy in 2025.
One thing is for sure: Future Dusk promises to be a welcome follow-up to the brand’s famous declaration of Digital Lavender as the shade du jour for 2023 and Apricot Crush for 2024. Future Dusk’s moody and mystical purplish tone evokes a digital artist’s rendering—perhaps of a deep night sky or something close to nature but not quite of this world. Society’s increasing fascination with AI, the metaverse, and continued exploration of space have all contributed to this 2025 Color of the Year prediction, which evokes a world where the uncanny valley is often and easily accessed. According to Coloro and WGSN’s society, technology, the environment, politics, industry, and creativity framework, Future Dusk is a reflection of forthcoming shifts in all those categories.
However, it is also afunctional color—one that textile fabrications can produce and that can be applied to many industries, including fashion and design. At the convergence of two color wheel sections, Future Dusk represents the liminal. It is not gender specific, and it can be used as either a statement color or a deep neutral. (We’d love to see it used for an otherworldly take on a powder room.)

“As humans, our relationship with color is constantly evolving with our broadening understanding of the world around us: In the near future, the lines between reality and fantasy will become more blurred than ever, and color will adapt to bring to life these new imaginative territories,” explains Caroline Guilbert, Coloro’s head of creative content. In the spring/summer 2025 season, four other hues will see their popularity rise, the company says: Aquatic Awe, a jewel-tone teal; Sunset Coral, a saturated version of a stellar sunset shade; Transcendent Pink, a subtle hue evoking the digitally designed fantasy architecture of the metaverse; and Ray Flower, a bright yellow that was inspired by the sunflower-based biomaterial research of British fashion designer Jess Redgrave.
The developing technologies that have inspired these colors can have both positive and negative effects, many of which have not yet been revealed. In 2025, “today’s poly-crisis will continue to strongly impact consumers’ behaviors and mental state while AI integrations into our daily reality will increase,” predicts Guilbert. Partially a warning of the uncertainty to come, Coloro’s 2025 Color of the Year, Future Dusk, is also an invitation to creatives to consider what could be.
