The 41-year-old man who is suspected of projecting anti-Semitic texts on the Anne Frank House on 6 February of this year, was surrendered by the German authorities to the Netherlands on 25 August last. The Public Prosecution Service also suspects the man of making a short film, in which images of the projection had been combined with discriminatory song lyrics, and distributing it via social media.

After the projection and the online publication of the short film the Amsterdam detective force started an investigation, in which the suspect came into view quite soon. From this investigation it appears that after the projection on the Anne Frank House the 41-year-old man, who has the Polish and Canadian nationalities, returned to his residential address in Poland. The Public Prosecution Service issued a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) against the man. On 25 April of this year he was arrested by the Polish authorities.

The man's home and car were searched by the Polish police. Two detectives of the Amsterdam police were present on that occasion. In anticipation of the further investigation the Polish authorities prohibited the man from leaving the country. He did not comply with this prohibition, however. On 8 July the German police arrested him on Frankfurt Airport when he tried to travel to Canada.

After his arrest he was kept in detention in Germany awaiting his surrender. On 25 August last he was transferred to Amsterdam and on 28th August he was brought before the examining magistrate, who ordered detention for two weeks.

On 5 October 2023 the suspect will be brought before the three-judge section of the District Court of Amsterdam. Whether the contents of the case will then also be heard is not yet known at this time.
