Makeup has become a necessity in some people’s lives. It can help bring out your favorite features, hide flaws and make you feel more confident. Though, makeup may seem like a girls best friend, it may not be the healthiest to have it all over your face on a daily basis. With our current situation of being home more often, there’s an opportunity to wear less to no makeup! You will see a great change in your skin that will satisfy you for years to come.

Wearing too much makeup can expose the skin to a chemicals and toxins. Makeup can cause skin irritation and allergies. If you feel like you’re having an allergic reaction you should remove your makeup immediately. Giving up your daily routine of makeup may seem hard, but here are some benefits of halting back some makeup that might make you change your mind!

You’ll start to experience fewer breakouts. The more makeup you use, the more toxins you’re putting on your face. Using a makeup brush too often without cleaning it will also build up gross dirt and bacteria that will clog your pores. Dirty makeup brushes can also make your makeup look worse, cause skin irritation and risk you getting wrinkles. Not only will these germs clog your pores, but they’ll lead to inflammation which will lead to more breakouts. More breakouts will put you in this desperate cycle of needing more makeup to cover them up. Makeup is one of the main causes for acne and skin problems. Less makeup leads to less of these problems.

You’ll be able to say goodbye to your dry skin. Makeup messes with our skin’s natural cell renewal process. On nights when you’re too tired to wash the makeup off your face, you’re wreaking havoc on your skin. When you don’t wash your makeup off your face, dead skin won’t be replaced with new cells. These dead skin cells will lead to dull and dry skin. Less makeup leads to less germs that will interrupt the formation of your new skins cells. You’ll feel a more clear, vibrant and hydrated face.

Your skin will stay looking younger. Most people think they need makeup to look younger but you might actually be prematurely aging your skin by trying to cover up your wrinkles. Pulling on your corner of your eye, tugging at your eyelids and rubbing your eye cream too hard can contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Being gentle with your skin will cut back on prematurely aging your skin, but less makeup will have your skin looking younger.

You’ll have less bacteria on your face. Bacteria is all around us but you don’t want it on your face. Every single time a makeup brush touches your face, you’re adding bacteria to your skin. Viruses can live on lipstick and other makeup for weeks. Make sure you’re not sharing makeup with your friends, not using old makeup and replacing or washing your brushes on a daily basis.

Still not convinced on wearing less makeup? Some other benefits are:

  1. Fewer eye infections and allergic reactions.
  2. Less headaches from products that may be scented.
  3. A chance to look in the mirror and see your real beauty and not just your flaws.
  4. A healthier you all around.

Dr. Kurzman is happy to go over a skin care regimen and suggest appropriate anti-aging and moisturizing products from his very own skincare line!

Ditching your makeup completely may be hard but reducing how often you use makeup will be beneficial in the long run. Making sure your taking your makeup off entirely at the end of the day is so important. Always wash your face after and follow your skincare routine. Society may have us thinking that we need makeup and that aging is a bad thing but it’s an amazing feeling when you can look in the mirror and see the beauty of your naked face.
