Do you tip at tanning salons? ›

We tip for lots services; dining out, spa treatments, valet service, etc. but since spray tanning is a relatively new service, we often hear the question, “Do I tip you?”. The answer is yes. You would tip your spray tan technician just as you would your hair stylist, nail technician or spa provider.

Ban Details: Prohibits minors under 17 from using tanning devices. 17 year olds must obtain parent/guardian written consent. Prohibits minors under 14 from using spray tan.

Though they're not as prevalent as they were when I was in my teens and early twenties, tanning salons still exist, which means people are still going to them.

Do I put lotion on before or after? both! you definitely want to use a tanning lotion prior to tanning!

Wear either underwear or a bikini. Some people also choose to tan naked, but if you're going down this route, ensure you take extra care of your more sensitive areas to prevent burning. Protect any tattoos you have with recommended balms, especially if you've had them done recently.

Some tanning beds will have buttons for you to personally control the fans that circulate the air, or some will have separate light bulbs you can turn on and off to tan your face. Depending on the salon, you may also have to close the lid to the tanning bed and turn the machine on when you are ready to start.

You are free to wear whatever you like to make the most of your tanning experience.

California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nevada, Texas, Vermont, and Washington ban tanning beds for all minors under 18. States like Indiana, Wisconsin, and New York require parental consent for minors to tan indoors.
