How to keep cornrows looking fresh? ›

It's important to keep your scalp clean and free of dirt and buildup. Use a gentle shampoo to cleanse your scalp and hair like Nguvu Black Soap Shampoo. Cornrows can be drying to your hair, so it's important to keep your hair moisturized. Use a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to keep your hair hydrated.

Dutch Braids: 3 to 10 days. Sleep is a big factor in how long braids will last. If you are a restless sleeper braids will get messier quicker. We recommend a silk pillow case/ bonnet, which we have available for purchase also to help extend the life of your braids.

The longer your braids stay in, the harder it might be to maneuver around the build up. Some people end up having to cut their hair after leaving braids on for too long. So how long is safe? I'd recommend 6 to 8 weeks and if you want to go longer, you have to really take good care of it to avoid a lot of breakage.

Castor oil considered the best scalp oil for braids is the most suitable pick for the deep conditioning treatment. Before going to bed at night, apply a generous amount of organic castor oil to your scalp, let your scalp absorb, then cover it using a plastic cap or towel. And the next day wash it off with cool water.

Because it's a natural astringent with anti-inflammatory properties, witch hazel can cleanse and soothe your scalp without drying it out.
