Do Tape Extensions Cause My Hair To Fall Out? Why Does My Hair Feel Thinner After I Take Out My Extensions?

Let's talk about this moment right here! You go to the salon for a lift; your hair feels thinner than it was, and you enter a freak frenzy and have condemned extensions.

But we promise it isn't what you think; we won't lie. Sometimes a faulty application can cause uneven tension, resulting in unnecessary fallout. Surprisingly, a single strand of hair can withhold 100 grams of weight without breaking or falling out; however, the pressure must be even with the correct technique—the wonderful law of physics. Think about this: Even pressure applied to an egg won't break, but it will break if the pressure is uneven.

Great! We've established that a lousy application can lead to a fallout. How do you know if your application is wrong? Hair isn't a one size fits all, and neither is your placement; your extensionists should be able to explain your placement by observing your hair's growth pattern and lifestyle. If you experience discomfort, this is a sign of incorrect application, and you should follow up with your extensionist.

Another reason why your hair might seem thinner than usual is your extensionist has had to thin out/ add layers to your hair to get your extensions to blend better. This is usually done while your extensions are already in, so you may not notice it, but it will become evident at your lift/removal appointment. This should also be communicated before application so your stylist can offer alternatives.

Using safe products for your hair is crucial to keeping your hair healthy before, during and after your tape extensions have been applied; using a safe hair remover and a strong tape that grips but doesn't GRIP. Our super hold tape is the perfect hold, strong but not a-nightmare-that-will-take-ages-to-get out strong.

You've checked all the above boxes. So, why else would my tape extensions cause fallout?

The average person loses between 50-100 strands of hair a day, now times that by the weeks before your next lift.

Let's say you lose 50 strands of hair a day x 6 weeks between lifts = you've lost 2,100 strands of hair; let's just say half of those hairs remain stuck in your tape bonds. That's 1,050 strands of hair that could be trapped within your hair extension bonds. Now when you go to your lift/removal app, you down 1,050 strands of hair trapped in your extension bonds. My point is your hair still sheds naturally, and because of the method tape extensions use, your natural shed becomes trapped. So when removal times come, your hair feels thinner than usual. This is also why sometimes you notice the white hair follicle at your bonds; this hair has fallen out with no place to go.

This is a huge misconception with tape extensions. Like an ant, you'd be surprised at how much weight your hair can hold before it breaks. It's important that you know and that this is communicated to you to avoid getting yourself into something you might not be comfortable with.
