Brits share how best to eat Weetabix, from milk temperature to soggy vs crunchy (2024)

Linda Robson and Craig Revel-Horwood quiz British public on Weetabix

Breakfast-loving Brits have shared how they prefer to eat their Weetabix – from whether they would rather munch on a crunchy or soggy biscuit, to the temperature of the milk.

A survey of 2,000 adults, who enjoy the popular cereal brand, found that almost three-quarters (72%) like to pour cold milk over their Weetabix – with just 27% opting to heat the liquid up.

Almost a fifth (18%) would rather tuck in while it is still crunchy, although 33% prefer to let theirs go soggy. And when it comes to the ideal portion size, Brits would typically serve up two biscuits – although 27% would pour out three or more.

Meanwhile, 87% of those who eat their Weetabix with milk, would add the liquid after the cereal is in the bowl – but 7% pour the milk out before adding the cereal.

The research comes as #DebateTheBix has take off on social media in recent days, with celebs, members of the public, and a host of brands discussing whether Weetabix should be enjoyed with hot or cold milk – and using #ColdBix or #HotBix to reveal their preference.

Vodafone and the Co-op are “team hot”, while the likes of innocent Drinks, Iceland, Birds Eye, Aunt Bessie's, and Morrisons are “team cold”.

Strictly Come Dancing ’s Craig Revel Horwood revealed he prefers cold milk, while Loose Women star, Linda Robson, likes her milk hot. And the stars are so passionate about the topic, that they took to the streets of London to quiz the public on their milk preferences.

Cold milk fan Craig said: “Of course my morning Weetabix has got to be with cold milk. It’s got crunch, it’s refreshing, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, darling – #ColdBix has got a solid 10 out of 10 from me.”

Meanwhile, hot milk supporter, Linda, said: “I’m more of a hot-milk kind of woman. I love the way it warms me up from the inside out and starts my day off, especially during the colder winter months.”

However, the study, commissioned by Weetabix, and carried out through OnePoll, also found that people’s preferences can change depending on the weather, with 28% more likely to go for hot milk when it's cold outside.

But almost two-thirds of those polled (63%) still like the breakfast cereal the same way now, as they did when they were children.

A spokesman for the breakfast brand said: “Weetabix has always been versatile in how it can be enjoyed. Having been around for over 90 years, our position is there is no right or wrong way – hot or cold are both delicious.”

And behavioural psychologist, Jo Hemmings, has teamed up with the brand to reveal what your milk choice says about you.

She said: “Contrary to what you might think, how you have your Weetabix may indicate as much about your character as your personality itself.

“The typical profile of someone on Team #HotBix is that they like their home comforts, relish nostalgia, and are known as a sociable person.

“On the other hand, those on Team #ColdBix are something of a traditionalist, who like routine and plan ahead – leading to potential avoidant attachment styles. From now on, you’ll definitely be curious about how others have theirs!”
