History. The company was formed by the 1998 merger between Avalon Properties Inc.and Bay Apartment Communities Inc. The merged company owned 40,506 apartment units.

Avalon Bay is about a 21-mile voyage south from Los Angeles. Approach from the north. Flashing green “1” and flashing red “2” mark the west and east breakwaters that enclose Avalon Bay. Depths inside are in the 18-foot range and most of the bay is covered with privately run moorings.
