What is the history of Avalon Bay communities? ›

History. The company was formed by the 1998 merger between Avalon Properties Inc. and Bay Apartment Communities Inc. The merged company owned 40,506 apartment units.

As of December 31, 2020, the Company owned or held a direct or indirect ownership interest in 291 apartment communities containing 86,025 apartment homes in 11 states and the District of Columbia, of which 18 communities were under development and one community was under redevelopment.

Avalon Bay is about a 21-mile voyage south from Los Angeles. Approach from the north. Flashing green “1” and flashing red “2” mark the west and east breakwaters that enclose Avalon Bay. Depths inside are in the 18-foot range and most of the bay is covered with privately run moorings.

Avalon was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 18, 1892, from portions of Middle Township, based on the results of a referendum held two days earlier. The borough was reincorporated on March 6, 1896, and again on May 4, 1897. Another portion of Middle Township was annexed in 1910.

Dividend: Solid dividend payouts are arguably the biggest enticements for REIT investors, and AvalonBay has consistently paid out dividends each year since it went public in 1994.

Since the 1970s, most of the island has been administered by the Catalina Island Conservancy. In 2022, Santa Catalina Island's population was 4,201 people, with a 51.44 percent to 48.56 percent ratio of male to female residents, 90 percent of whom live in the island's only incorporated city, Avalon.
