A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes | Alphabet Makeup Tag - The Newbury Girl (2024)

When it comes to makeup, eyeshadow palettes are my weakness. In fact, palettes account for the largest and most expensive category within my huge 2020 makeup collection. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing my response to the A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes tag.

About the A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes Tag

Jen Phelps created the Alphabet Makeup Tag as a fun way for beauty lovers to talk about the products in their collection from A-Z. However, I came across the tag when one of my favorite Project Panning YouTubers, Alejandra Lisette, participated.

In Alejandra’s video, she transformed Jen’s original tag to focus solely on eyeshadow palettes. As a self-proclaimed eyeshadow fiend, I knew I had to participate in this challenge to see if I owned a palette for every letter of the English alphabet.

But do I? Keep reading my A-Z Eyeshadow Palette tag to find out if I do!

A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes Tag Rules

Select an eyeshadow palette that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Try not to select palettes from brands that start with that letter unless there are no alternatives. Also, I’m going to try my hardest not to repeat brands for more than one category unless there are no other options.

A is for… the Amor Eterno Muerte Palette

Starting off this tag with one of my favorite releases of 2019, Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Muerte Palette. Inspired by the Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, the Muerte Palette was designed to bring to life the look of the evening sky. Without a doubt, the Amor Eterno collection is one of my favorites from the brand.

Sadly this palette is no longer available, but read my review on the Amor Eterno collection or my review of the Millennial Pinx Palette. See where the Muerte Palette falls in my brutally honest Melt Cosmetics Palette Ranking or check out this post duping the Gemini Palette with unique indie eyeshadow singles.

Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette

Bis for… the Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette from Urban Decay

When Urban Decay initially released the Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette* I thought this travel-themed palette was a snooze. However, after swatching this palette in-stores, I completely changed my mind. This is a beautiful, grungy rainbow palette that is perfect for travel. Check out my in-depth review of the Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette or my review on the Naked Honey Palette.

C is for… the Cor-de-Rosa Palette from Sigma Beauty

After the release of the Enchanted Palette, Sigma Beauty made a clear effort to step up its makeup releases. In fact, when the Cor-de-Rosa Palette launched, I stopped in my tracks due to the beautiful pink-coral color story and artistic pan imprints. How could I not include this beauty in my A-Z eyeshadow palette tag roundup?

NABLA Dreamy 2 Palette

D is for… the Dreamy 2 Palette from NABLA Cosmetics

Without a doubt, the NABLA Dreamy 2 Palette is one of the prettiest grungy neutral palettes to be released in 2019. The Dreamy 2 Palette includes a unique blend of textures and formulas, ranging from ultra-sparkly shadows to latex mattes. Read my in-depth review of the Dreamy 2 Palette for swatches and my complete thoughts.

Overall, I am so excited that this dope, European indie brand is finally becoming more accessible to American beauty lovers like myself. Check out this review on the Italian brand’s Skin-Glazing Highlighters.

F is for… the Focus Palette 3 from Thrive Causemetics

Do quads count as palettes? I think so.

After watching Kathleen Light’s Full Face of Thrive Causemetics video, Thrive jumped to the top of my list of brands to try in 2019. Beyond that, I love the brand’s mission. Thrive Causemetics aims to provide beauty lovers with non-toxic, clean makeup and skincare and donates to charities that empower women in need.

Also, nothing I’ve tried from the brand disappointed me. The brand’s all-matte Focus Quad 3 is a staple neutral palette in my collection for no-fuss makeup days.

G is for… the Greek Goddess Palette from Lunar Beauty

Here’s the deal. Do yourself a favor by doing an online search for the Lunar Beauty Greek Goddess Palette. Did you do it?

Ok – now we can proceed. Without a doubt, no brand puts as much thought or heart into packaging design than Lunar Beauty. Although the brand does not yet have a cohesive brand identity, Manny MUA’s makeup brand consistently puts out visually stunning, unique packaging designs. Not only does the brand play with raised packaging elements, but they feature designs that artfully capture the mood of each release.

BH Cosmetics Hanging in Hawaii

H is for… the Hanging in Hawaii Palette from BH Cosmetics

As surprising as this may seem, I never owned any BH Cosmetics Palettes until 2019. However, the brand’s 2019 travel series truly caught my attention. Despite being a warm-toned neutral palette, I felt so drawn to this tropical-themed palette.

I is for… Identity Palette from Persona Cosmetics

Hello. Welcome to my blog where I rave about Persona Cosmetics. Founded by professional makeup artist and influencer, Sona Gasparian, Persona Cosmetics aims to provide makeup lovers with products that fit their many personas.

The Identity Palette is the brand’s first release. This true neutral palette is one of my most reached-for palettes in my collection for creating easy, everyday makeup looks. Check out my Identity Palette review for swatches and my full-thoughts.

A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes | Alphabet Makeup Tag - The Newbury Girl (10)Best Influencer Collaboration 2019: Anastasia Beverly Hills x

J is for…. the Jackie Aina Palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills

Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Jackie Aina Palette never got its time to shine in the way that it deserved. Despite being the brand’s best release since Soft Glam, Jackie Aina’s palette was quickly passed over by the brand when it started its barrage of non-stop, mediocre releases.

Nevertheless, this pigmented, pink-purple palette remains one of the brand’s best releases. Check out my entire Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette ranking or read about the rest of my favorite Fall-themed palettes.

Menagerie Cosmetics Killer Purr Palette

K is for… the Killer Purr Palette from Menagerie Cosmetics

Y’all know that Menagerie Cosmetics needed to show up in my A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes tag. However, I bet you thought I’d be featuring the Violet Ink Micro Palette! Instead, I’m featuring this dope American indie brand‘s take on a neutral eyeshadow palette.

When the Killer Purr Palette first released, I immediately began to compare it to the Natasha Denona Safari Palette. I love the palette’s grungy undertones and the way this palette incorporates such stunning pops of color without feeling like the typical neutral palette with a pop of blue.

A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes | Alphabet Makeup Tag - The Newbury Girl (12)

L is for… the Latte Palette from Dominique Cosmetics

Even though I’m not a fan of lattes, I am a fan of the Dominique Cosmetics’ Latte Palette. Like so many other palettes included in my A-Z Palette roundup, this is another effortlessly beautiful neutral palette. Truly a standout release from the brand.

A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes | Alphabet Makeup Tag - The Newbury Girl (13)

M is for… the Mothership VII: Divine Rose Palette from Pat McGrath Labs

The Mothership VII Divine Rose Palette is easily one of Pat McGrath’s prettiest releases to-date. This rose-themed palette is full of stunning pink and mauve mattes and metallics. I’d highly recommend this palette to luxury makeup lovers who are just beginning to dip their toes into playing with color.

N is for… the Nubian Eyeshadow Palette from Juvia’s Place

Don’t mind my chunky swatches – this shot is from one of my early reviews. To date, the Juvia’s Place Nubian Eyeshadow Palette remains an all-time favorite palette in my collection. In fact, my palette looks beat up! This is an ultra-affordable, warm-toned neutral palette that will work across a wide range of skin tones. The formula is incredibly pigmented, but still easy to manipulate.

Inside the Essence Ola Rio Eyeshadow Palette

O is for… the Ola Rio Eyeshadow Palette from Essence

Honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with the Ola Rio Eyeshadow Palette. The packaging is beautiful, the beach theme is clear, and the performance is fine for the price tag. I struggle with the fact that this color story does not adequately represent the diversity of the Brazilian people. In fact, this palette wouldn’t work for the majority of Brazilians. See swatches & read my Ola Rio Eyeshadow Palette review.

Cream & Sugar and Pumpkin Spice Bite Size Palettes from e.l.f.

P is for… the Pumpkin Spice Bite Size Quad from e.l.f.

If you haven’t tried one of e.l.f.’s ultra-affordable Bite Size Quads, why not? These $3.00 quads are a major steal. In fact, I’d argue that the quality is unbeatable at this price point.

Of the four quads that I own, Pumpkin Spice is my favorite. I love the beautiful warm, copper-toned neutral shadows. They’re perfect for everyday glamour. Read my e.l.f. Bite Size Palette review for my in-depth thoughts on 4 of the 8 quads in the range.

Aether Beauty is one of the dope clean makeup brands to recently explode in the prestige beauty scene. As the name suggests, the Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette is a rose-gold themed palette that is perfect for makeup lovers who enjoy rocking soft looks.

Close up of the Natasha Denona Sunrise Eyeshadow Palette

S is for… the Sunrise Palette from Natasha Denona

Honestly, the Natasha Denona Sunrise Palette was the ‘make or break’ palette for me. After a disastrous experience with the Mini Lila Palette, if I disliked the Sunrise Palette I likely wouldn’t have given the brand a third chance.

Thankfully, I loved the sister palette to Natasha Denona’s iconic Sunset Palette. Inspired by the pink, purple, and yellow hues of the sunrise, this warm palette was the brand’s first foray into a larger version of its mini palettes. Read my Natasha Denona Sunrise Palette review for swatches and my honest thoughts.

T is for… the Textured Neutrals Volume I Palette from Tati Beauty

Believe it or not, I purchased the Textured Neutrals Volume I Palette on launch day. At the time, my intention was to review Tati Westbrook‘s neutral palette. However, I never seemed to get around to it. Nevertheless, the Textured Neutrals Palette is a beautiful staple palette for neutral eyeshadow lovers who enjoy experimenting with textures and finishes.

V is for… the Venus XL Palette from Lime Crime

Lime Crime’s Venus XL Palette is a beautiful warm, berry-toned neutral palette. At the time of its release, this palette was one of the most popular warm-toned palettes. To this day, the Venus XL Palette remains a stunner.

ColourPop Wild Nothing Palette

W is for… Wild Nothing from ColourPop

In hindsight, the Wild Nothing Palette is not groundbreaking. However, this desert-themed palette is the brand’s first entirely Vegan palette. Although not the most innovative, Wild Nothing is a beautiful everyday palette.

A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes | Alphabet Makeup Tag - The Newbury Girl (24)

X is for… x9 Princess Jasmine Palette from MAC Cosmetics

Unpopular opinion: I love the x9 Princess Jasmine Palette from the MAC x Aladdin Collection. This soft-glam neutral palette is inspired by the sands of Agrabah. Read my review on the MAC x Aladdin collection for more details on this palette, as well as other products in the line.

ColourPop Yes Please Palette

Y is for… Yes, Please Palette from ColourPop

Hard to believe that this is the palette that started it all, but ColourPop’s Yes, Please Palette was the affordable alternative to Natasha Denona’s iconic Sunset Palette. Inspired by the hues of the setting sun, this affordable palette truly helped to put ColorPop on the map.

Currently, I do not have a review of the Yes, Please Palette on my blog. However, I encourage you to check out my ultimate ColourPop Palette ranking and Monochromatic Palette ranking for swatches and speed reviews of many of the brand’s releases. P.S. I even have posts swatching all my pressed single shadows and Super Shock Shadows from ColourPop.

Huda Beauty Topaz Obsessions Palette

Z is for… the Topaz Obsessions Palette from Huda Beauty

Yes – I realize this one’s a bit of a stretch, but it has a ‘Z’ in the name! To keep it brief, the Topaz Obsessions Palette was one of the Gemstone Obsessions Palettes released by Huda Beauty. Check out my Huda Beauty Palette ranking for swatches on this topaz-colored beauty.

Final Thoughts on the A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes Tag

Believe it or not, I actually had a hard time doing the A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes Tag. Some letters were difficult to find in my collection. Obviously, some letters are far less common than others. For example, I clearly do not own any palettes that start with the letter Z.In comparison, I own 12-15 Palettes that start with the letter B or M.

Also, any guesses for how many letters I could have used for ColourPop? SEVENTEEN. Yes, my ColourPop eyeshadow palette collection spans 17/26 letters. Pretty crazy if you ask me!

Overall, the A-Z Eyeshadow Palettes tag is one of the most fun beauty tags I’ve participated in during my time blogging. Although I love thinking critically about my collection, sometimes I just want to have a little bit of fun with my makeup. I encourage anyone with a sizable eyeshadow or makeup collection to do this tag. You won’t regret it!
